My addiction

Ok, maybe addiction isn’t quite accurate, since I haven’t watched an episode in nearly a month.  But I definitely am in love with the show 7th Heaven.  I was depressed when they ended it.  The show is so ironically unrealistic that it’s funny, but I love it anyway.  No Christian family, or pastor’s family in my acquaintance believes or acts quite like they do.  In fact, I don’t know anyone who is even close to them.  Especially in regard to the drama!  I know families with over ten children and they don’t have near the theatrics the Camden’s portray.

But I can’t help but love them.  So, maybe that would be considered an addiction, then.  Because I wish life really was that way.  Sure, their lives are full of stress and mistakes . . . but they do something most people don’t.  They are constantly helping people.

It’s like a tick . . . or a curse . . . or maybe a blessing, but the Camden’s can’t help but help people. Even when they’re in the midst of rebelling, all the sudden they’ll see someone worse off than them and suddenly they bring the homeless man home for dinner!  I wish I lived in a world that was really like that.  But, sadly, reality is that it probably wouldn’t be safe to just pick up someone off the streets and bring them into your home.  Life can’t always have happily-ever-after endings.

Despite that, I still want to date a man like Matt Camden (what girl wouldn’t?) . . . want to see my church literally take each week’s sermon to the streets . . . want to have people just show up at my door because of my reputation of helping people . . . want to take a physical stand for what I believe right . . . and I want to know that after a busy day I can come home, only to find that home is the most hectic (yet somehow, the happiest) place of all!

As their theme song states so well:  “When I see their happy faces smiling back at me, I know there’s no greater feeling than the love of family.  Where can you go when the world don’t treat you right?  The answer is home.  It’s the one place that you’ll find 7th Heaven!”
